After a classmate pulled out a gun in class, Kendrick Castillo wasn’t going to be a bystander. Surrounded by the friends he considered family, he knew he had to do something to save them.
Kendrick passed away after lunging at the shooter, giving other students at STEM School Highlands Ranch enough time to hide, his family and a classmate said. “I know that because of what he did, others are alive, and I thank God for that. I love him. And he is a hero and he always will be,” his dad, John Castillo, said. “He just loved people that much.”
As parents with students in the Douglas County School District, the owners of DealTaker have been deeply saddened by the events that happened last week at the STEM School in Highlands Ranch. They are outraged for the victims and afraid for the welfare of their own children attending schools nearby.
STEM student, Kendrick Castillo, will always be a hero to us as he sacrificed his life trying to protect his fellow students. “I wish he had gone and hid, but that’s not his character. His character is about protecting people, helping people,” Castillo said.
In honor of Kendrick’s bravery, DealTaker will be donating 100% of our profits this entire week (5/13-5/19/19) to the Kendrick Castillo Memorial Fund. As a DealTaker merchant, sports apparel store, Fanatics, has also graciously agreed to help with contributions to the fund this week when sales of Fanatics merchandise are made through DealTaker links. Please consider shopping with DealTaker and Fanatics this week to support Kendrick’s family and the sacrifices of this incredible young man.
